We should go back to Oregon. I think we all agree that Oregon was pretty much the most amazing part of this trip. I really don't see what all the big fuss was about, about this stupid place. The campgrounds are all lame, the facilities are awful, and it costs us 35 dollars to camp! (because we've got our friends in the car) Needless to say we're running out of funds fast, I'm interested to see where we end up.
So we got into California like.. yesterday. It was only like a 26 mile day at best. I had that Led Zeppelin song "Goin to California" stuck in my head. Not that it was awful, but it was 6 miles to get to California, then we were in California and I was still singing it, which was kind of annoying. We stayed at Jedidiah Smith Redwoods State Park, and it was okay except the facilities weren't that nice and it was freaking expensive.
So today Julia and I did about a 50 mile ride to Praire Creek Redwoods State Park. The begining of the ride went through Crescent City, which scared the crap out of all of us, and then there was this gnarly 9 mile long climb. 4 of those miles were 6 or 7%. We then reached the state park only to find, that it was full and once again we had no place to stay. So right now we're just hanging out in some town trying to figure it out.
But the moral of these stories, California blows. If you ever do a bike tour, just go up and down Oregon. Totally worth it.

What you are learning and seeing has got to be awesome, I'd think...what an life experience either way.....stay positive girls.
Congratulations on getting to California! I remember having some challenges there also. We were disappointed in the campgrounds and the different mindset in general. Be creative and safe - the Mendocino coast is worth the effort. In the Redwoods we stealth camped in a "closed" group campsite. Soak up as much of the coast as you can, we are still in triple digits here and no sign of rain!
You are awesome!
